Near retirement homeowners in their 60s & 70s living with 2 adult children gave Atelier Design Studio an unusual directive. As the family of 4 had lived together for 15 years and the children now all grown and likely to move out in the near future, the renovation project had to take into account some special circumstances. With the future intent of renting out all 3 bedrooms on level 2 when the children move out, the old couple will move and live downstairs. In preparation for this outcome, a sliding door was added to the living room that could seal off the space. In time this could be converted into a bedroom. This will allow easy access to the kitchen and store room as well as the main entrance. Likewise future tenants living upstairs will have their own privacy in their respective rooms and a shared bathroom upstairs.
